Abstract

Immune-mediated thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (iTTP) is a rare, life-threatening condition resulting from IgG autoantibodies to 'a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with a thrombospondin type 1 motif, member 13' (ADAMTS13). Severe ADAMTS13 deficiency causes accumulation of ultra-large von Willebrand factor (VWF) multimers which bind platelets, leading to widespread microvascular thrombosis, compromise of critical organs and profound thrombocytopenia . In the absence of treatment, TTP is usually fatal.
