We read with interest Westerhof et al's1 article investigating the factors associated with a poor prognosis for adult-onset asthma. We wonder whether they have data related to job and occupational exposures and the likelihood of occupational asthma. We have shown that patients with adult-onset asthma due to their work have accelerated FEV1 decline while exposure to the causative agent continues, which returns to normal rates of decline after the exposure ceases.2 Occupational asthma is thought to account for about 15% cases of adult-onset asthma.
